Turning a Section of a Photo into a Stamp

You may have a photo or picture and want to animate with an object within that photo. Flickmation provides the tools to do this.

Start with the Photo

Here is one of somebody dressed up as an ant. That ant's head would be great for an animation.

Note: the photo has been scaled down for this web page, the original used in this example is 1007 by 1371 pixels.

Getting the Photo into Flickmation

Start up Flickmation. If the photo is already on your iPhone then go the stamp catalogue screen from where you will be able to convert the photo into a stamp. If the photo is on your computer you can upload it directly, see the FlickmationHelper page for help with doing this.

So now there is new a stamp, lets call it AntMan, in Flickmation's stamp catalogue. This stamp has all the background that is not wanted.

Cutting round the Head

Create a new flickbook called CutOut. This flickbook is only going to be used for performing the cutting operation and can be deleted afterwards.

Paste the AntMan stamp into a frame. Since only the head is of interest, scale, rotate and move the paste so the head fills most of the frame.

Time to begin removing the background. Select the eraser and the filled shape tool. It will also be helpful to set the draw offset so that the draw point is not covered by your finger. This is where being able to position the drawing area is very useful. So zoom in and start removing the background a bit at a time. Any mistake can be undone.

Working around the ant head until it is nicely isolated.

The rest of the background can now be easily removed so only the ant's head is left.

Final mark the ant's head so it is copied into one of the paste buffers. Then convert the paste buffer into a stamp, AntHead maybe.

You can find the resulting AntHead here, a stamp that can be used in one of your flickbooks.
